Charlotte, North Carolina real estate is being battered by foreclosures just like most of the country. Specifically, Mecklenburg county is one of the leading contributors to the recent spike in foreclosures in North Carolina.
In April 2009 Mecklenburg county foreclosure filings more than doubled what they were the same time in 2008. In fact, Mecklenburg county contributed about 25% of all the foreclosures in the state last month.
The state banking commission continues a program to slow the foreclosure process and contact borrowers to offer help. This service is free to homeowners. In fact, reputable Realtors will also provide free consultation to homeowners that are in a distressed financial position on their property. The best thing a homeowner in this position can do is to contact the state or a local Realtor with a good reputation. Time is the critical thing. Early action may allow enough time to stave off a foreclosure. The worst thing a homeowner in this position can do is to do nothing!
