The Path to Success

Congratulations on taking the first step towards great success… that is, you know you want something more from your real estate career and you actually doing something about it.  By reading this “Path to Success” you will understand much more about yourself, your motivation and desire.  This IS NOT a motivational piece.  This will help you define success… the motivation will come from that!

That’s just what my wife, Lisa, and I did in 2003.  Today we still work hard in our real estate business but we also have more time to ourselves than we did when we started and we have a much better income.  In fact, we live a life now that we couldn’t have lived then!  All this didn’t happen by chance, luck or even by hard work alone.  It started by us knowing what we wanted to be and why we wanted to be that

That’s where you need to start.  We’ll concentrate on career success but the fundamentals of The Path to Success work for anything you are trying to achieve.  First you’ll need to determine what a Successful career is for you.  Who do you want to be?  A company owner?  Top Salesperson of the year?  Head mechanic at the shop?  Whatever it is you need to decide who you want to “be.”  Many people think it’s what you do that makes you successful.  That’s wrong!  You need to “be” someone who attracts what you want.  That’s what creates the success you are looking for!  Don’t focus on doing… doing happens naturally when you are being who you want to “be!”   When you are there, you won’t need to get motivated to do what you need to do… you’ll take action naturally!

Next you need to determine why you want to be what you want to be!  Why do you want to change from being who you are today to something else?  Are you running from something you don’t like or towards something you like better… or, a little of both?  The answer will define the strength of your desire.  When people fail it’s because somewhere along the journey they lose their desire.  People on the road to success don’t lose their desire because they always remember why they want to be who they are becoming!  If your “why” is compelling enough it will create the desire that is needed to become a success!  The opposite is also true. For example, if your “why” is that you are trying to satisfy someone else it will probably not create the desire required to be successful.

When you know your “why” then you can answer the following questions:

·     What are you willing to do to get there?

·     What are you willing to sacrifice?

·     How much are you willing to invest?  In time; money; family; friends; etc.

Finally, look at your answers to these questions.  Do they match what is required to become what you want to become?  If so then get going!  If you are not completely sure then you better reexamine what you want to be.

Remember, you can be anything you want if you have the desire to get there.  Desire comes from your “WHY”!  Don’t concentrate on what to “do” instead concentrate on who you want to “be” and the “do” part will happen naturally!

That’s how the people who are doing great things get where they are.  We see them as doing things… they see themselves as being something!

Of course good luck, strong resources and hard work are all helpful components.  But what gets you where you want to be when the luck is all bad, the resources are gone and you’re dead-tired from all the hard work is DESIRE!  And, desire is based on WHY you want what you want.

Think about these things and make sure you can answer them to yourself.  You see, we can give you all kinds of great ideas, coaching, systems, etc.  But, if you don’t know where you are going and why you are going there then you’ll never make the most out of what we tell you.  We often have agents come to us and ask us how we have “done it.”  If we tell them what we “do” it won’t help them.  Instead we ask them the questions we have outlined here.  Most people have not thought deeply enough about where they are trying to get to and, most importantly, why!

So, before you ask anyone for help be sure you know where you are going and your reason WHY.  Once you know that get a pad of paper and a pen so you can capture all the great ideas and your desire will drive you to actually put them to work for you!
That’s when you will succeed.

All contact people were friendly, polite, PROMPT and did what they said they would do. The amount of showings were phenomenal. The cruise was great fun and the moving van was very, very helpful.
